Service Designer

Salary: London Ranging from £56,400 - £86,600 and National from £51,200 to £78,700

Are you interested in joining a growing user centred design team, putting the needs of people who use the FCA’s vital products and services at the heart of design and development?

The team/department

This role sits within the User Centred Design Team within the Digital Delivery Hub. We are part of the Data, Technology & Innovation (DTI) Division leading the FCA in harnessing the power of data and advanced analytics to transform financial regulation.

What you will be doing (the role)

As a Service Designer at the FCA you will work within a specialist user-centred design (UCD) team to provide expert service design delivery to emerging multi-disciplinary digital product teams, for new and existing products and services that help our users achieve their goals:

1. Help teams to see their service through a people lens with a design state of mind, helping them to map and discover opportunities to improve the life of users

2. Design service improvements through the use of data, design thinking and agile ways of working to solve problems, test ideas quickly, iterate what you do and embed a learning culture

3. Develop journey maps, service blueprints and other artefacts that best communicate systems, opportunity, and vision to varying audiences

4. Support the development and growth of our design community of practice

The skills and experience you will have

Minimum 

We are a signatory to the Government’s Disability Confident scheme. This means that we will offer an interview to disabled candidates entering under the scheme, should they meet the minimum criteria for a role.

13. Relevant service design experience

14. Substantial experience in working in project/programme environments involving business & IT change

15. Design experience within any of the following types of organisations/sectors: financial services, government/regulatory body, technology, consultancy (ideally IT consultancy)

Essential

16. User-centred and Agile practices. You can understand and demonstrate experience in a range of user-centred practices.

17. You can help inexperienced teams adopt user-centred practices and embed them into their Agile workflow

18. Evidence- and context-based design. You can absorb large amounts of conflicting information and use it to produce simple solutions

19. You can generate multiple solutions to a problem and test them and can negotiate a complex organisation and leverage insights to deliver great services

20. User focus. You can collaborate with other UCD roles and can represent users internally. You can understand the importance of assisted digital and can design services to meet user needs

21. Communicating between the technical and non-technical. You can listen to the needs of technical and business stakeholders and interpret them

22. You can effectively manage stakeholder expectations and support or host difficult discussions within the team or with diverse senior stakeholders

Multi-location

As part of the FCA’s on-going commitment to develop our national presence, most of our vacancies are now open to working in our Edinburgh, Leeds, or London offices. This means that as part of the application process you will be able to select your preference of which office location you would like to work from. There will be an expectation that the successful candidate (if not based in Leeds) is available to travel to Leeds around once a month.

What to expect from our interview process

The assessment process consists of an initial screening call with one our Recruitment Partners. If successful, you will be invited to attend a 30 minute first stage interview to bring your CV and application to life and share your motivations for this role. If a candidate progresses to the final stage there will be a competency-based interview, including a case study presentation.
