The Group Insurance Manager owns the design, placement, and management of the enterprise insurance programme for Royal London.
In this role, you will ensure optimal risk transfer for the Group, its pension schemes (where applicable), funds/vehicles, and trustees/Directors — covering financial lines e.g. Professional Indemnity (PI), Investment Management Insurance (IMI), Directors & Officers (D&O), Trustee Liability, Crime, Cyber, property and casualty, travel, employee benefits interfaces, and the Property Asset Management business.
You will work closely with Risk, Legal, Compliance, Finance, and Procurement to embed a robust insurance programme aligned to regulatory and company expectations, such as FCA Consumer Duty, Operational Resilience, and Third-Party Risk.
About the role
• Lead the design, placement, and management of the enterprise-wide insurance programme.
• Oversee claims management and incident response, ensuring effective management of losses and recovery.
• Manage governance, reporting, policy review and regulatory alignment across insurance activities.
• Support financial planning through exposure analysis, loss modelling, capital management and scenario testing.
• Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and the external insurance market, including brokers and insurers.
About you
Essential
• Demonstrable experience managing corporate insurance programmes in financial services—ideally asset management, pensions, wealth or capital markets.
• Strong knowledge of financial, general, property, cyber, crime and construction lines, with hands-on claims experience.
• Proven track record reviewing policy wordings, endorsements, and complex indemnity/insurance clauses.
• Experience interacting with brokers and promoting a positive image with insurers.
• Familiarity with the FCA regulatory environment.
• Strong understanding of risk management and its influence on insurance purchasing and risk financing.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage Boards, ExCo, Legal, Compliance, Procurement, Technology and Fund teams.
• Advanced analytical skills (loss modelling, exposure analysis, scenario testing) with strong written communication suitable for Board-level papers.
• Professional insurance qualification Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) preferred.
• SM&CR awareness with the ability to operate within conduct rules and attestations.
Desirable
• Experience within a broker, insurer, or leading placements for financial services clients.
• Exposure to fund/vehicle structures (AIF/UCITS) and LP/GP expectations regarding insurance.
• Additional professional qualifications (Dip CII/ACII, Institute of Risk Management (IRM), CISI, Association of Insurers and Risk Managers in Industry and Commerce (AIRMIC).
• Experience with runoff, warranty and indemnity, as well as transactional liability matters in mergers and acquisitions situations.
