The HLTA: Pastoral Support & SEMH Lead will have a passion for supporting pupils and their families, assisting them with pastoral and welfare support. The primary focus is to provide pastoral, SEMH wellbeing and welfare support to pupils, their families. The post holder will be the school's mental health champion and will also hold operational Designated Safeguarding Lead responsibilities under the direction of the Senior Leadership Team.
The post holder will be willing to undertake (and seek out) training in relation to this role and maintain an up to date knowledge of all relevant statutory provision.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Working under the direction of the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team:
Pastoral and Safeguarding Support
As a key member of the Designated Safeguarding team for Child Protection at the school, working in collaboration with the DSL, Headteacher and other DSL trained staff and under the line management of the AVP: Inclusion
Pastoral support
* Support with the coordination and provision of pastoral, wellbeing and welfare support to pupils
* Respond to and support behaviour issues as they arise within phases once the phase staff have exhausted all appropriate strategies to successfully de-escalate and return the student to learning.
* Take a lead role in the educational and social development of pupils who struggle to attend school to overcome the cycle of school or lesson avoidance
* To be the student Mental Health Champion for the school
* To co-ordinate and deliver mental health/emotional regulation interventions and support in the schools ARC provision
* To closely liaise with school nurse alongside the AVP Inclusion in order to manage the referral of students who will require further specific interventions from her.
* To liaise with other mental health professionals and coordinate onward referrals.
* To liaise with parents and teachers to ensure they have strategies that can be implemented at home and in the classroom
Safeguarding
* You will be required to play a lead role in the day to day safeguarding operations, and take the lead in any Child Protection and safeguarding matters, including attendance at child protection and family support conferences.
* To work with the Senior Leadership Team to oversee Safeguarding and Pastoral Support, which includes Leading Team Around The child/Family meetings (internal and external)
* Ensure Safeguarding records are up to date and actions are followed through, including setting up relevant training sessions
* To work in liaison with SLT and co-ordinate with the Safeguarding Team at Bede Secondary as appropriate.
* Ensure the school receive safeguarding files from previous settings, when a pupil joins the school and are sent to new settings, when a pupil leaves the school and that records of this are maintained and stored appropriately
* Take a lead role in sharing information with key colleagues and external professionals, attending CINs, CP reviews, Case Conferences and other multi/external agency meetings as needed
* Complete referrals with and on behalf of families in collaboration with the SENDCO (Strengths and Needs assessments, EHCNA etc)
* Ensuring records of meeting have been sent to the all professionals within 2 weeks of meetings
