Board Member Opportunity – HIE’s appointment to the Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport board
The Inverness & Cromarty Firth Green Freeport (ICFGF) is an initiative established by the Scottish and UK Governments to promote economic growth, address depopulation, and support the energy transition to renewable sources. The Highland Council, along with over thirty regional and national businesses, public sector organizations, and academic institutions, have collaborated on what is considered the most transformative project in the Highlands for decades. ICFGF was formed by approximately 30 partners, including Port of Cromarty Firth, Port of Nigg (Global Energy Group), Port of Inverness, Highland Deephaven, and Port of Ardersier (Haventus), among others.
Green Freeport status aims to maximize benefits locally and across Scotland from renewable energy projects, positioning the Highlands at the forefront of the drive towards net-zero, potentially creating up to 11,300 jobs locally and 18,300 across the UK.
HIE strongly supports the Green Freeport initiative as a long-term asset that will foster collaboration between industry, academia, and the public sector to stimulate transformational regeneration through economic activity, investment, innovation, and skills development. The successful candidate will serve as a director on the ICFGF Board and will liaise regularly with HIE. The appointment is expected to commence in Summer 2025.
Candidates should possess one or more of the following priority skillsets:
* Audit or risk management
* Government relations
* Knowledge of the energy sector
* Understanding of HIE’s role in supporting ICFGF development
Remuneration: A competitive daily rate of £278 will be offered for this role.
Location: We particularly welcome applications from individuals in the Highlands and Islands who understand the local community and business challenges.
