Birchwell Associates are partnering with a fast-growing organisation in the renewable energy sector to appoint an experienced Electrical Designer. This senior position will take ownership of the electrical design function, ensuring projects are delivered with compliance, efficiency, and buildability at their core. The role also involves managing an internal team, overseeing external design partners, and supporting cross-departmental activities to enhance project quality and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver and review detailed electrical designs and calculations (AC/DC cable sizing, grading studies, connection layouts).
* Prepare and check Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), drawings, and pre-design layouts.
* Support communication and monitoring systems, providing both on-site and remote input.
* Manage G99/G100 applications and ensure compliance with grid requirements.
* Produce Bills of Materials, Scopes of Works, and cost-aligned design outputs.
* Lead and mentor the internal design team, driving technical standards and professional development.
* Manage external design subcontractors, ensuring outputs meet internal quality benchmarks.
* Implement structured design review and change control processes.
* Provide technical input during construction and respond to site-based queries.
* Engage with clients, suppliers, and stakeholders, delivering clear and professional communication.
Candidate Profile
* Degree (or HNC/HND) in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
* 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) (essential).
* Strong experience with UK grid connection standards, including G99/G100.
* Minimum 5 years experience in electrical design within renewable energy (solar and batteries advantageous).
* Skilled in design software such as AutoCAD, Amtech, PV*SOL or similar.
* Proven leadership skills with experience managing and mentoring design teams.
* Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) desirable.
* Knowledge of NICEIC/MCS compliance advantageous.
* Strong organisational, technical, and communication skills, with commercial awareness.
