Main duties of the job
NGPS will be working in partnership with the Integrated Pharmacy Team in Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, to deliver clinical supervision for the pharmacy prescription hub team, across two GP sessions per month. The pharmacy prescription hub is located at Regent Point in Gosforth and is staffed by a team or pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, who work in partnership with selected GP practices in the processing of most non-urgent prescriptions.
The hub aims to improve the safety and quality of prescribing at the practice and to reduce the workload of the practices prescribers, to free up capacity to consult with their patients. Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians have expertise in keeping people safe with their medicines.
Quality improvement is embedded across activities in the hub, and recent projects have included management of stock shortages and increasing patient uptake of the new medicines service. The hub also has access to the hospitals computer systems; making communication between the hospital and the GP practice easier.
