Location: UK (remote-first with occasional team meet-ups)
Package: £75-90k
Why this role?
Our client is scaling rapidly and needs an accomplished Head of Engineering to steer a 30-strong, cross-disciplinary team through its next phase of growth. You’ll shape engineering strategy, champion best practice and deliver products that delight thousands of customers - without having to write production code yourself.
Current stack: PHP, Python, React, AWS (serverless & containerised environments).
What you’ll own
* Strategy & Vision – Define and execute an engineering roadmap fully aligned with product and commercial goals.
* Leadership – Inspire, mentor and develop managers and ICs across multiple locations; build succession and hiring plans.
* Delivery – Partner with Product, Design and CX to ship high-impact features on time and to quality.
* Excellence & Scale – Embed robust standards in architecture, testing, CI/CD and cloud infrastructure so the platform scales effortlessly.
* Culture & Performance – Foster a culture of innovation, accountability and continuous improvement; set and track meaningful KPIs.
* Resources & Budget – Own head-count planning, vendor management and engineering budgets.
What we’re looking for
* Leadership depth – 5 + years in senior engineering roles leading teams of 15 + (ideally 30 +) in fast-paced SaaS or tech environments.
* Technical breadth – Sound understanding of modern software development and distributed system architecture (hands-on coding not required). Familiarity with PHP, Python, React and AWS is advantageous.
* People focus – Proven ability to coach, motivate and retain high-performing, cross-functional and distributed teams.
* Commercial mindset – Comfortable balancing technical trade-offs with business priorities and communicating at C-suite level.
* Operational rigour – Track record of introducing scalable processes, metrics and best-practice engineering standards.
Bonus points for: exposure to event-tech or similar real-time, high-availability platforms.
