The Plant Place has been proudly family-run since 1998, and we've been growing ever since. With a passion for quality and a focus on exceptional customer service, we've become more than just a garden centre. Our shop is home to everything from horticultural accessories, lawn care and plant feeds to gifts, houseplants and much more. What really makes us special are the connections we build with our community and the brilliant team behind it all. The Role

We are seeking a friendly, motivated, and passionate shop assistant to join our fast-paced indoor team. You will be the face of The Plant Place, providing exceptional customer service to our valued customers as a till operator and sales assistant.

Key Responsibilities:

● Delivering outstanding customer service: Greeting customers warmly, providing accurate information, and answering queries or complaints with confidence and professionalism.

● Efficiently operating the till: Accurately processing transactions, handling cash, and operating point-of-sale systems with speed and accuracy.

● Promoting products and offers: Actively engaging with customers to suggest relevant products and inform them about current promotions within our Seed Loyalty Club.

● Contributing to a positive team environment: Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure smooth operations.

● Receiving goods and pricing them

● Replenishing displays and shelves with new stock

Experience and Education:

● Previous experience in a customer service role: Experience in retail, hospitality, or a similar environment is highly desirable.

● Strong communication and interpersonal skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.

● Basic numeracy and literacy skills: Ability to handle cash accurately and understand basic mathematical concepts.

● Experience with cash handling: Prior experience with handling cash and operating cash registers is preferred.

● Basic computer skills: Familiarity with basic computer operations and point-of-sale systems.

● GCSEs in Maths and English (preferred): GCSEs or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English are preferred.

Working Hours

Standard working hours are typically between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM, with shifts ranging from 7 to 10 hours per day. Specific shift patterns will be discussed during the interview process. Weekend work will be required on a rotational basis.

You may be required to carry out additional duties and take on other responsibilities. In these circumstances you will be expected to liaise directly with the General Manager/Directors. The Company reserves the right to vary or amend the duties and responsibilities of the post holder at any time according to the needs of the Company's business. This list of duties is not exhaustive and may include other related duties as required to contribute effectively to the achievement of the business aims and objectives. If a need for action or an opportunity is identified, this must be brought to the attention of the General Manager/Directors.

Please be aware that the positioning of the tills, in a glasshouse close to exits, means that you must be prepared to work in both hot and cold temperatures according to the season and the prevailing weather. Although we try to make conditions as comfortable as possible for employees, we cannot guarantee a consistent temperature controlled environment.
