Overview
The Vice-Principal will deputise for the Principal and take an active part in all aspects of school life. This is a full-time teaching post with membership of the School Leadership Team.
Responsibilities
* Lead learning through high standards of teaching and learning.
* Assist the Principal in all areas of leading learning and teaching, school administration, management and organisation.
* Lead School Development Planning, School Evaluation Self-Evaluations and Staff Development (INSET).
* Curriculum Co-ordination across Key Stages; oversee development and delivery of the curriculum.
* Coordinate curriculum development, including planning, benchmarking, target setting, PRSD, monitoring the quality of provision.
* Promote positive behaviour and assertive discipline; chair the Safeguarding Team as required.
* Assist with financial administration including budget planning, allocations and monitoring spend.
* Maintain timetables and rotas; develop and promote links with parents and the wider community.
* Organise major school events and oversee extra-curricular activities; assist with lunch-time cover as needed.
* Undertake other duties as required by the Principal.
Qualifications and Experience
* Hold a teaching qualification which meets the requirements for recognition to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland.
* Have a minimum of 5 years post-qualification teaching experience in primary education within the last 10 years.
* Currently hold or have held for a minimum of 3 years within the last 8 years a post with leadership or management experience (e.g., Subject Co-ordinator/Head of Key Stage/Head of Department/SMT/SLT) including monitoring and evaluation resulting in measurable school improvement; or have held a post of Principal or Vice-Principal; or have leadership experience within an affiliated body.
* Evidence of how leadership has led to school improvement and involvement in strategic planning.
Knowledge and Skills
* Extensive knowledge of the Northern Ireland Primary Curriculum and current policies and procedures.
* Awareness of current educational developments and ability to evaluate and respond to new challenges and manage change.
* Effective classroom pedagogy and high standards of teaching, learning and achievement; data management; and effective organisational management including resource deployment.

* Assertiveness, adaptability and resilience; caring, child-centred approach; tact and diplomacy.
* Ability to cope under pressure and to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
Essential Conditions

* Applicants must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) upon taking up employment.
