The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Cyber Security team as we begin to implement the next phase of our multi-layered cyber defence environment at Kingston University. Our vision is for IT to be a valued business partner, providing innovative, secure services to 17,000 students and 2000 staff. As a Cyber Security Specialist, you will be involved in all aspects of cloud security within the organisation, operation and support of key security systems and services that underpin the protection of Kingston’s digital services, infrastructure, data and users.
As a Cyber Security Specialist, you will use your extensive expertise to help maintain and secure our environment. You will contribute to the day-to-day management of Information and Cyber Security operations. You will also work closely with IT teams to secure the technology and develop/update security standards and policies to safeguard our digital services, ensuring they are secure and fit for purpose, enabling the University to deliver its strategy.
The Person
You will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of cybersecurity systems and services, both cloud-based and on-premises, to ensure the University’s IT assets and systems (including physical infrastructure, users, and data) remain secure and compliant. This role involves managing and maintaining core threat protection tools and associated infrastructure to mitigate risks and defend against security vulnerabilities. You will also play a key role in educating the organisation on cybersecurity best practices for cloud computing and contribute to the development of security solutions that enable the adoption of these practices by default.
Collaborating with stakeholders across related disciplines, you will support efforts to integrate cloud security solutions and toolchains with the University’s broader enterprise security capabilities.
You will bring extensive and relevant experience in IT best practices, including proven expertise in managing enterprise security platforms. You should possess strong technical skills, a deep understanding of IT security management, and the ability to assess information systems, IT services, and threats. Experience in resolving network and system issues is essential, along with a solid grasp of endpoint security, compliance standards, and protective techniques.
