We are seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Occupational Therapist to join our community Adult Learning Disability Service in the Scottish Borders. You will join a friendly multidisciplinary service and manage a caseload of complex cases using evidence‑based, patient‑centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions to encourage meaningful occupation and social inclusion. A particular focus for this post will be to support the implementation of the “Coming Home Programme”. The caseload will be diverse and include people aged from 18 to end of life with a learning disability and varying co‑occurring mental health conditions, neurodiversity and dementia.
Responsibilities
* Provide clinical expertise, leadership and supervision of support staff.
* Demonstrate and promote the trust’s values and leadership behaviours.
* Engage in regular supervision, leadership development, CPD and student placements.
* Operate with a high degree of autonomy while being allied with the Borders Adult Learning Disability Service and wider Occupational Therapy Service within mental health for connection, support and professional development.
Requirements and Qualifications
* Full driving licence and access to a car.
* Ability to work in the United Kingdom and meet relevant permission to work requirements.
* A caseload including adults with learning disabilities and a range of co‑occurring conditions; willingness to work across 18 to end of life with LD and associated needs.
Interview and Selection
* The hiring manager would like the interviewee to present for 10 minutes on “The role of the Occupational Therapist in Transitions for People with a Learning Disability”.

* From 1 April 2025, there may be changes to criminal records checks. If the post is assessed as a regulated role, appointment will be subject to joining the PVG Scheme. Details will be confirmed by the Hiring Manager or Recruitment Team.
* To work in the UK you must have permission to work; the UK Visa and Immigration Service oversees this requirement.
* NHS Scotland Boards may check entitlement to work for preferred candidates as part of pre‑employment checks.
