Job overview

The post-holder will work with the diabetes/general medicine and endocrinology team to provide diabetes & endocrinology/ general medicines service to a catchment population across Staffordshire, Leek Moorlands and North Shropshire. The successful applicant will join a Diabetes and Endocrinology team made up of 8 Consultants. We also have 2 x 28-bedded acute medical wards where most of the patients with acute metabolic diseases are admitted, supported by junior and middle grade staff.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will work across two Diabetes & Endocrinology / General Medicine wards, in conjunction with another Junior Doctor and the consultant who provides cover to the ward.
Participation in out-of-hours-work and weekend ward rounds is required as part of this post.
The post-holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the patients on the ward, the majority of whom will have had a period on another hospital ward prior to transfer to Diabetes & Endocrinology / General Medicine.
The consultant facilitates a morning Board Round with a requirement to work towards prompt discharges, aiming for Home before Lunch.
