Our Surgical Assessment Unit is a busy proactive area specialising in Emergency treatments and assessments for a variety of Surgical specialities. We are an established team and although it is a very busy and demanding ward we work closely as a team and deal with the day to day pressures with positivity and high levels of energy.
We love making a difference and working together as a close family to gain the rewards of making our patients journey enjoyable and successful. To do this, we are looking for Nursing Associates / Assistant Practitioners with a genuine interest in Acute Surgery to join us.
Experience of working with Surgical patients in a hospital setting would be beneficial.
You will need to be flexible in your working hours to work shifts/unsocial hours including nights as required.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for providing a range of personalised care for patients and a range of clinical dutiesunder the guidance and supervision of the Team Leader/Nurse in charge.
Ensuring the environment of care is safe, well-equipped, and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness is a fundamental responsibility within this role. This involves meticulous attention to detail and proactive measures to maintain the highest standards of safety and cleanliness throughout the care environment.
Moreover, proactive support for Trust-wide or local changes and developments in nursing practice is integral to promoting innovation and improvement. Whether it involves implementing new protocols or procedures, such as intentional rounding or alcohol screening, adherence to these changes is crucial for maintaining high standards of care delivery.
The resolution of issues and complaints at the local level is emphasised, followed by the reporting of outcomes to line managers. This approach ensures that concerns are addressed promptly and effectively, contributing to a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement within the healthcare setting.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
-Contribute to the assessment, implementation and evaluation of care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards and evidence-based guidelines under supervision.
-Support and provide patient education and health promotion.
-Support the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice.
-Contribute to the management of risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
-Assist in setting, monitoring and maintaining standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care.
-Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care.
-Maintain accurate and complete records of all care activities, in a timely manner, adhering to local and professional standards for documentation.
-Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation.

Qualifications and Education
Essential criteria
1. Completed Foundation Degree in Health & Social Care OR •Achieved LTHTR Assistant Practitioner Programme. OR •Relevant Nursing Associate Registration
2. Maths & English grade 4-9 or grade C or above OR •Functional Skills Maths & English Level 2.
Desirable criteria
3. Basic Life Support Cascade Trainer
4. Key Mover Cascade Trainer
5. ANTT Assessor
6. Good IT skills
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
7. •Experience of working as a Trainee Assistant Practitioner within an acute hospital setting.
8. •Proven competency of performing a core range of clinical procedures.
