The London legal team supports the firm’s international offering of services in the asset management and UK private bank businesses, providing investment advice, investment management services, investment processing technology, and other solutions to institutions, enterprises, banks, funds and investment advisors. The team is primarily responsible for advising on contracts and regulatory matters, negotiating and drafting agreements across its business lines, and supporting the development of global business solutions and services. Individuals in the team maintain a comprehensive understanding of multi-jurisdictional laws and regulations, various investment product structures, and engage external legal counsel as necessary.
What you will do
* Provide support to London’s business units, leading on the drafting, negotiation and renegotiation of agreements and other commercial relationships.
* Work with key stakeholders to manage strategic corporate initiatives including Merger and Acquisition activity, reorganisations and new business ventures.
* Participate in legal and regulatory projects, advising the business on legal risks, obligations and industry standards and ensuring adherence with FCA and other regulations (e.g., MiFID II).
* Support the business with transactional work and appropriately escalate legal and regulatory issues to the General Counsel.
* Ensure adherence to Corporate Governance, maintaining strong mandatory records and internal systems to ensure integrity and effective communication within the team.
* Keep current on market conditions, fintech regulation, and FCA rules governing outsourcing, client assets, data protection and conflicts, communicating relevance to client practices.
* Maintain responsibility for risk identification, assessment, control, escalation, recording, and completion of required Risk Management training.
What we need from you
* Strong post-qualification experience within financial services, preferably with in-house experience.
* Experience negotiating transactional documentation of various financial services agreements.
* Knowledge of the FCA handbook, including key rules such as MiFID PRU, COBS, CASS, PROD and SYSC.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
* Excellent drafting skills with an eye for detail and contextualisation of issues.
* Business acumen, strategic thinking, commercial awareness and financial principles.
* Strong communication skills suitable for both legal and non-technical colleagues, from operations to board level.
* Awareness of risk management principles as they apply to the role.
* Ability to conduct training on legal or regulatory developments within the business.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and appreciation for when to seek escalation to the General Counsel.
* Flexibility and willingness to support the team in varied legal and regulatory work as required.
* Sound judgement, diplomatic skills, and commercial focus to mitigate legal risk while enabling business objectives.
* Ability to multi‑task, manage multiple priorities, and meet key deadlines.

* SMCR Category: This role is identified as a conduct role and is therefore subject to the relevant Senior Manager and Certification Regime Rules set by the FCA.
