Quantity Surveyor / Estimator
Leicester Based Office with Nationwide Site Travel
£55,000 - £60,000 + Company Car / Car Allowance
An established and growing specialist contractor within the construction sector is seeking an experienced Surveyor / Estimator to join their team. This is a hybrid commercial role combining both estimating and quantity surveying responsibilities, offering excellent long-term career prospects within a supportive and professional environment.
The Role
This position offers a dynamic split between pre-contract estimating and post-contract commercial management. Depending on workload, you will take the lead in either function, playing a key role in both securing and delivering projects.
Projects are primarily within passive fire protection, including fire-stopping, cavity barriers, and specialist coatings, across sites nationwide (predominantly Midlands-based).
Key Responsibilities
Estimating Duties
* Manage tender enquiries from initial review through to submission
* Analyse drawings, specifications, and tender documents
* Carry out site visits where required
* Prepare detailed cost estimates including labour, materials, and plant
* Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing
* Produce detailed bills of quantities and tender submissions
* Ensure compliance with industry regulations and fire safety standards
* Support value engineering initiatives
* Attend pre-start and handover meetings upon project award
Surveying Duties
* Manage projects from award through to final account ("cradle to grave")
* Review contracts and terms to ensure commercial compliance
* Monitor budgets, costs, and project cashflow
* Manage variations, compensation events, and change control
* Submit monthly applications for payment and track outstanding monies
* Build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders
* Conduct regular site visits and support project delivery teams
* Lead final account negotiations and close-out
About You
* Experience within construction (passive fire protection advantageous but not essential)
* Strong commercial awareness and contractual knowledge (JCT/NEC)
* Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
* Excellent communication and negotiation skills
* Highly organised with strong attention to detail
* Full UK driving licence
