Summary:
The Clinical Nurse supports Maine Medical Center's mission, vision, and values by exhibiting behaviors such as excellence, competence, collaboration, innovation, respect, patient and family-centered care, commitment to the community, and accountability. In accordance with national standards of nursing practice and the policies of Maine Medical Center and the Maine State Board of Nursing, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, documentation, and evaluation of nursing care. Care delivery begins with the initial contact with the healthcare system and may continue across the continuum, including inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, and community settings.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
1. Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Evidence of 10 hours of ongoing education per year.
2. License/Certifications: Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in Maine. Specialty certification is preferred.
3. Experience: Meets all requirements of Clinical Nurse I. Completion of Level I is usually achieved within 12 months of employment. Cardiac experience is preferred.
4. Knowledge: Basic understanding of the research base, theory, practices, principles, and processes of professional nursing.
5. Interpersonal Skills: Effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
6. Analytical Skills: Ability to identify changes in patient conditions and initiate appropriate actions.
7. Crisis Management: Ability to recognize potential crises involving patients or families and respond appropriately.
8. Caring Practice: Demonstrates compassionate nursing care and promotes a healing environment.
9. Technical Skills: Adequate knowledge and skills to care for most patient populations on the unit.
