About the role
As a Sous Chef, you'll be working as part of our friendly kitchen brigade to ensure the efficient day-to-day running of our kitchens and assist in providing a consistently high-quality dining experience.
You'll lead and inspire the kitchen team to create exceptional culinary experiences that leave a lasting impression, using your creativity and flair to develop and execute a food offer while also ensuring that it meets the highest standards of quality, innovation, cost control, health, and safety.
John Lewis Northampton NDC is one of our smaller catering operations within the distribution network, catering for around 30-40 partners per shift from Monday to Friday.
We offer a breakfast and dinner service with a selection of grab-and-go and vending options throughout the day.
As a Sous Chef at Northampton, you will be the sole chef within the unit, working alongside our friendly established catering assistants to ensure the efficient day-to-day running of our kitchens and assist in providing a high-quality dining experience.
You will lead and inspire the kitchen team to create exceptional culinary experiences, developing and executing a food offer that meets high standards of quality, innovation, and safety.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan and manage a menu suitable for the site’s clientele, delivering a high-standard dining experience within the contract catering environment.
* Use your knowledge to train and develop team members in all aspects of food preparation.
* Ensure food safety compliance at all times.
* Assist the Head Chef in planning, producing, and delivering quality food offerings and presentation standards.
* Meet legislative requirements, including allergen management.
* Achieve sales targets by managing food offer availability and supporting upselling efforts.
* Control food and labor costs and minimize wastage.
* Conduct daily compliance checks, including temperature logs, cleaning schedules, chemical use, PPE, H&S, and customer service standards.
Essential Skills and Experience
* Food Safety Level 3 certification.
* Relevant professional chef qualifications such as City & Guilds diplomas or BTEC HNC in professional cookery.
* Proven experience leading a team in a commercial kitchen.
Desirable Skills and Experience
* Influencing, motivating, and coaching skills.
* Experience in a senior chef role in a similar venue.
