Overview
Crown Oil Ltd is seeking a detail-oriented Software Tester to join our in-house development team. You will be responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of internally developed systems across the business, supporting a range of critical operational processes. The role involves a combination of manual testing and automation, working closely with developers and stakeholders in an Agile environment. This role is primarily office-based, with four days per week on-site in Bury (just off the M66). We offer free on-site parking and a modern, relaxed office environment.
Responsibilities
* Perform manual testing across internal systems and applications
* Design, write and maintain test cases and test scenarios
* Carry out exploratory testing to identify defects and usability issues
* Log, track and manage defects using Jira
* Validate bug fixes and ensure appropriate regression testing is completed
* Develop and maintain automated test scripts using Playwright
* Identify opportunities to automate repetitive testing processes
* Support the growth of automation coverage across systems
* Contribute to integrating automated testing into development workflows
* Work closely with developers throughout the development lifecycle
* Review requirements to ensure clarity and testability
* Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups and retrospectives
* Provide clear feedback on quality risks and release readiness
* Contribute to improving QA processes, standards and tools
* Support a culture of quality across the development team
Essentials
* Experience in manual software testing within a development environment
* Strong understanding of testing methodologies (functional, regression, exploratory)
* Experience writing structured test cases and clear bug reports
* Experience using defect tracking tools such as Jira
* Experience working in an Agile or Scrum environment
* Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Desirable
* Exposure to automation tools such as Playwright
* Experience with other automation frameworks (e.g. Cypress, Selenium)
* Basic understanding of JavaScript or TypeScript
* Experience in testing CRM or business systems
* Experience with API testing tools such as Postman
