Consultant in Acute Medicine
We are recruiting to Consultants in Acute Medicine. The Acute Care Consultant is pivotal in the department offering both clinical and team leadership. Working as part of a team of Higher Specialty trainees, Middle Grades, ACPs, Junior Doctors: GPVTS, FY2s, FY1s and a skilled nursing team. Those with specialist training in another specialty and an interest in Acute medicine will be considered. We welcome applicants with a specialist interest in ultrasound guided procedures, ITU or Respiratory medicine as we are developing an enhanced care unit in AMU. We are willing to support your career aspirations to develop your specialty interest in addition to Acute medicine.

Responsibilities
Job responsibilities include:
1. Definitive care of patient attendances and admissions.
2. Lead the delivery of high quality acute medical intervention to patients in all Acute areas by continuing development of practice in line with evidence-based clinical standards.
3. Lead the provision of comprehensive medical service to AMU and A&E and develop comprehensive plans for patient care in the acute phase, taking active involvement in the management of all unscheduled emergency medical admissions to the Trust.
4. Develop and provide acute medical services to assist in admission avoidance and early safe discharges strategies of the Trust.
5. Lead and direct the AMU to facilitate substantial reform in the management of emergency medical patients, establishing links with GPs and other consultant staff.
6. Monitor the delivery of emergency medical care to ensure high quality, evidence-based care at all times.
7. Ensure safe high quality acute medical intervention including procedures required for patients and responsive to best practice.
8. Support the teaching and training of junior medical staff, medical students and postgraduate medical education.
9. Support and encourage audit and research quality improvement programmes.
Qualifications
Essential
* Full MRCP or equivalent; Basic Medical Degree
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (Proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview), European Community Rights or CESR
* Evidence of Higher Specialist Training in Acute Care Medicine
* Adult Life Support (ALS) within last 3 years
Desirable
* Previous teaching experience
Professional and Multi-disciplinary Team Working
* Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues within a multi-disciplinary team and develop effective working relationships across all staff levels
Clinical Effectiveness and Research
* Experience of conducting clinical audits or quality improvement projects
* Ability to use evidence and audit to support decision-making, prompt decisions and handling of complaints
* Ability to teach clinical skills to medical staff/students and other disciplines; understanding of NHS reforms and related issues
