Occupational Therapist - In Patient Mental Health

Due to maternity leave, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist (OT) to join the Adult Mental Health Inpatient Therapies Team at the Stonebow Unit in Hereford for a fixed‑term contract of 12 months. This is a full‑time post, but we would consider applicants seeking part‑time work of a minimum of 30 hours per week.
Main Duties of the Job
* Complete formal assessments to reduce the risk of falls.
* Empower patients to maintain skills for meaningful occupation.
* Consider the impact of task demands, life history, and the environment on patient wellbeing and contribute to the development of MDT wellbeing care plans.
* Support the MDT in making recommendations for discharge, including home environment assessments (a car and a valid driving licence will be required).
* Offer 1:1 and group interventions focused on occupation for wellbeing, sensitive to the patient's cognitive ability.
* Liaise with community Mental Health services, external agencies, families and carers to gather information and support discharge.
* Complete accurate records and detailed occupational therapy reports, and support training and supervision of assistant staff and students.
Qualifications
* Diploma/degree in OT.
* Practice Placement qualification within one year of appointment.
* Registration with HCPC.
* Provide original certificates to verify qualifications at point of offer.
Skills and Abilities
* Application of the Occupational Therapy Process.
* Ability to plan and co‑ordinate treatment packages.
* Group work skills.
* Ability to work under pressure.
Knowledge
* Broad knowledge of current best practice in Occupational Therapy and Mental Health.
Experience
* Documented evidence of continuing professional development.
* Experience in a relevant clinical setting.
* Support of junior staff and/or students.
Additional Criteria
* Willingness to work flexibly.
