The role
- I need support to make sure I get up in the morning, have breakfast and take my medication and travel to college.
- I find it really difficult to manage my anxiety when I am doing things that involve people, like going to college, traveling on public transport or going shopping. So I need your help to still do these things.
- I struggle to cook as seeing food before it's cooked or touching it puts me off eating it. Given the choice I don't like eating either. I need someone to pick me up from college and help me to cook a meal.
- I can have low moods so all sharps and medications are locked away and I am supervised when using them.
Responsibilities
- Work in partnership with me to apply strategies to reduce my anxiety.
- To work as part of a team so that all my support and strategies are communicated and shared with everyone that supports me.
- Ensure I take my medication and eat breakfast and dinner.
- Help me develop life skills e.g. cooking and travel training.
- Transport me to and from college.
Qualifications and Skills
- Kind, caring and a sense of humour would be much appreciated.
- Someone who understands anxiety and is prepared to learn how to spot early signs of me being overwhelmed and use a wide range of strategies.
- You need to be a good verbal communicator.
- Must have a driving licence and own transport.
- Willing to have an enhanced DBS, provide a full work history and have two professional references (one of which must be from a previous employer).
- Treats the young person with dignity and respect e.g. disability and gender identity.
Required Training / Experience
- Implementing Safety Plans to ensure the home environment is safe in reducing both opportunity and intrusive thoughts around self‑harm and suicidal ideation.
- Experience of supporting young people with social anxiety and implementation of successful strategies for community engagement.
- Experience or qualifications in supporting young people with Autism/Mental Health.
- Experience of promoting and supporting independent living in the home and out in the community.
