Developing Accessible Services for Young People,Streetwise offers free and confidential information, advice, counselling, and support services for young people aged 11 – 25 years. We are a busy young people’s service based in the city centre of Newcastle upon Tyne.
We currently have vacancies for QUALIFIED Young Person Counsellors (Initially fixed term until March 2024) extension funding dependant)
We are looking for candidates who have significant experience of working with young people providing one to one counselling in a supportive environment. The candidates must demonstrate a sound understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding and have the ability to assess young people’s needs.
This role will be a mixture of home working (online counselling) and face to face delivery is required, Face to face sessions will be at the Streetwise office, local schools, and potentially other venues such as local GP surgeries.
Hours available: 37 hours per week this will include 2 mid – week evenings up to 8pm and a Saturday will also be required.
Key areas of the role are:
* To work as part of an experienced team offering counselling and therapeutic support to young people from the ages of 11-25 years.
* To provide appropriate individual and group support to young people, taking into account appropriate age and stage of developmental needs.
* To work therapeutically with young people through a variety of mediums including face to face and online (via video link, telephone, and instant messaging).
* To offer time limited, goal focused and where clinically appropriate longer-term interventions.
* To carry out initial assessments and continually assess the mental health needs of the young person, referring to the most appropriate services if necessary.
* To keep accurate case notes and input records onto a case management system, including the use of outcome measures.
* To liaise and network with other agencies and individuals who may be in contact with the young person. For example, parents, social care, schools, youth, and community services.
* To attend external meetings if necessary.
* To actively promote Streetwise services to young people and external partners and agencies.
* To adhere at all times to the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Code of Ethics.
* To ensure adequate supervision is received (clinical, group and line management supervision)
* To participate in ensuring that young people’s views, both on existing provision and new developments, are actively sought and acted upon.
* To identify gaps in provision for young people and, where appropriate, to initiate or participate in the development of new services.
* To actively ensure that the project is a comfortable and welcoming place for young people to be.
* To promote positive mental health and wellbeing to young people in a creative way using a range of mediums including outreach, presentations, workshops, stalls, and social media.
