 
        
        Overview
Special School Nurse to assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care for children and young people with a range of disabilities within a Special School in the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
Responsibilities
 * Assess and plan the care for children with complex health needs.
 * Provide skilled nursing support to enable children to access educational opportunities.
 * Deliver health education and promotion, addressing physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.
 * Offer training and support to education, social work and nursing staff tailored to each child.
 * Provide evidence‑based preventative interventions and specialist care packages.
 * Identify social care needs and safeguard children from abuse.
 * Ensure children receive national immunisation programmes.
 * Organise and co‑ordinate clinics with visiting consultants and dietitians.
 * Support health promotion initiatives formally and informally, including smoking cessation and lifestyle advice.
 * Manage own workload and maintain a diary of day‑to‑day activities.
 * Receive supervision and support from the Senior Special School Nurse and Team Lead.
Qualifications & Requirements
 * Registered Nurse with NVQ Level 5 in Nursing or equivalent.
 * Experience working with children and young people with complex needs.
 * Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
 * Strong communication and multi‑disciplinary teamwork skills.
 * Willingness to undertake DBS checks and CQC statutory requirements.
 * Applicants who meet Fit and Proper Person Requirements will be subject to additional pre‑employment checks.
