As our MedicalSecretary you will work within the Practice to support and coordinate patientscare across different services, undertaking a variety of administrative dutiesthat are associated with the role. Delivering a high quality, patient-centredservice that brings together personalised care and improves patient outcomes.


Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will also have:

* A Knowledge of Medical Terminology andexperience of working in a similar role/environment is preferred.
* 2 years Experience of workingwithin General Practice as a Medical Secretary would be advantageous, howeverrelevant NHS Experience will be taken into consideration.
* Excellent verbal and writtencommunication skills are essential as is a meticulous attention to detail.
* Excellent organisational andinterpersonal skills are essential.
* Excellent IT skills including aworking knowledge of Microsoft office.
* A Knowledge of SystmOne, Ardens,AccuRx, Agillio Teamnet and would be an advantage however being a fast learner with the ability to learn a variety of IT based systems isessential.

Job responsibilities

To be responsible for undertaking a wide range of secretarialand administrative duties and the provision of administrative support to themultidisciplinary team. Duties caninclude but are not limited to, the processing of information (electronic andhard copy) in a timely manner, liaising with multidisciplinary team members andexternal agencies such as secondary care and community service providers inaccordance with current policies, including the use of the electronic referralservice (ERS).

Primary Responsibilities

The following arethe core responsibilities of the medical secretary. There may be on occasion, arequirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors suchas workload and staffing levels:

* Typing letters, reports and associated documentation as required
* Liaising with external agencies such as hospitals and communityservices, ensuring referrals are processed efficiently
* Manage all enquires in an effective manner
* Maintain an accurate referrals database
* Process letters and emails as requested
* Scanning of patient related documentation and attaching scanneddocuments to patients healthcare records
* Input data into the patients healthcare records as necessary
* Process referrals using a variety of systems,includingthe electronic referral system (ERS)
* Process requests for information i.e. SAR, insurance / solicitorsletters and DVLA forms
* Read code data on SystmOne
* Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with thecallers request appropriately
* Manage all administrative / secretarial queries as necessary
* Carry out system searches as requested
* Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times
* Support allclinical staff with general administrative tasks as requested

Secondary Responsibilities

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the medical secretary maybe requested to:

* Partake in audit as directed by the audit lead
* Produce meeting agendas and record the minutes of meetings
* Complete openingand closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota


Person Specification


Experience

* 2 year's experience as a Medical Secretarial experience within a GP Practice
* Secretarial experience


Qualifications

* GCSE Grade A to C in English and Maths
* Secretarial Qualifications


Experience

* 2 year's experience as a Medical Secretarial experience within a GP Practice
