NHS National Services Scotland
Community nurse
Posted: 4 October
Offer description

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa or a Health and Care Worker visa. NHS Highland is unable to provide candidates with a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS).

The beautiful inner Hebridean island of Gigha is 7 miles long and 1.5 miles wide with 30 miles of coastline featuring indented rocky shores interspersed with white sandy beaches.

It is a very fertile island benefiting from the mild climate caused by the north Atlantic drift of the Gulf Stream and has many attractions for tourists who enjoy the varied wildlife and walks.

There are approximately 160 residents on the island.

A three-bedroom furnished house is available to live in while on duty, this is situated next door to the surgery, in the middle of the village.

We are seeking a proactive, innovative community nurse to join our team.

The post holder will relieve the caseload holder, providing 24hr cover for the nursing needs of the community. You will have a wide range of clinical experience including excellent clinical assessment skills.

In this role you will be a first responder for all medical emergencies, working alongside other agencies to provide a co-ordinated approach to any emergency incident.

You will work closely with the staff at Kintyre Medical Group to provide a service to the practice population, undertaking drop-in clinics at the surgery, including carrying out structured chronic disease management and recall.

Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work on your own initiative are essential. Experience of working from PGDs is required and a prescribing qualification desirable.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience of remote, rural nursing and island life.

The post holder will be supported by the wider community team based at Campbeltown Hospital.
