Job Overview
MK Talking Therapies (MKTT) is seeking an experienced and motivated clinician to take on a key leadership role within our service. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about high‑quality psychological care, service development, and supporting the growth of our Step 2 workforce. The postholder will play a central part in shaping and strengthening the Step 2 pathway, providing clinical supervision, training and operational leadership, and working closely with senior clinicians to ensure the service meets national Talking Therapies standards and commissioned targets. Only existing band 7 staff within MKTT will be considered for this role.
Main Duties
* Provide operational management for Step 2 staff and trainees, ensuring smooth day‑to‑day running of the service.
* Lead service‑development initiatives, contributing to innovation and continuous improvement.
* Offer specialist PWP supervision across staff groups, maintaining high clinical standards and supporting professional development.
* Deliver highly specialist psychological assessments, and individual and group interventions.
* Provide consultation and advice to multidisciplinary colleagues and non‑professional carers regarding clients’ psychological care.
* Work autonomously within professional guidelines and Trust policies, modelling best practice.
* Use research and audit skills to support service evaluation, policy development, and evidence‑based practice.
Qualifications
* Doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent) with recognised psychological therapies and BPS accreditation, or a comparable qualification in counselling psychology.
* OR Post‑qualification training in CBT leading to accreditation.
* OR HCPC registration if a practitioner psychologist.
* OR full or provisional accreditation with the BABCP.
Desirable Qualifications
* Pre‑qualification training in research methodology or staff training.
* Post‑qualification training in specialised CBT provision (e.g., perinatal mental health, chronic medical conditions, older adults).
* Post‑qualification training in the supervision of PWP staff.
Experience
* Experience working in an IAPT/TT service.
* Experience at Step 2 level as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner.
* Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment across a range of physical and mental health conditions and care settings.
* Experience working with diverse client groups across the life course, including managing emotionally intense and potentially abusive situations.
* Experience in adult mental health services and interdisciplinary working within the NHS.
* Minimum of 50 hours of clinical supervision in a specialist clinical or counselling psychology role, or equivalent.
* Experience teaching, training and/or supervising staff from varied clinical backgrounds.
Desirable Experience
* Supervising PWP or trainee PWP staff.
* Organising services to meet commissioning targets and operational objectives.
* Applying CBT to culturally diverse contexts.
* Carrying out psychometric assessments.
* Working with long‑term physical health conditions and peri‑natal mental health.
* Experience with older adults.
Knowledge and Skills
* Advanced skills in complex psychological assessment and intervention requiring sustained concentration.
* Excellent communication abilities, both oral and written, for sharing highly technical information with clients, families, carers and multidisciplinary teams.
* Consultation skills for other professional and non‑professional groups.
* Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, design and complex data analysis in psychology, or full accreditation as a CBT therapist.
* Evidence of continuous professional development in line with BPS and BABCP standards.
* Formal training in supervision of other psychologists and IAPT practitioners.
* Proven ability to conduct clinical audits.
Desirable Knowledge and Skills
* In-depth understanding of specialised psychological therapies for difficult-to-treat groups (e.g., personality disorder, dual diagnoses, additional disabilities).
* Knowledge of relevant legislation affecting clients and mental health practice.
* Experience leading and conducting research projects and interpreting data using statistical analyses.
Other Requirements
* Ability to teach and train others using multimedia materials in public, professional and academic settings.
* Ability to implement clinical governance mechanisms to maintain practice standards when exposed to highly emotive material.
Desirable Other
* Experience working within a multicultural framework.
