Job Title: Night Shift Mechanical Maintenance Engineer
Location: Pontrilas, Herefordshire
Hours: Sunday to Thursday, 21:45 – 06:15 (40 hours per week)
Salary: £35,591 – £42,985 per year plus weekly production bonus
About the Role
An experienced Night Shift Mechanical Maintenance Engineer is required to support operations within a busy industrial production facility. This hands-on role involves carrying out preventative and reactive maintenance, diagnosing faults, and supporting mechanical projects to ensure reliable and safe operation of plant machinery during night shifts.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance on mechanical systems and production machinery
* Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical faults to minimise downtime
* Deliver mechanical project work including upgrades, installations, and system improvements
* Support the integration and commissioning of new machinery
* Work with hydraulic and pneumatic systems to ensure reliable performance
* Perform welding and fabrication tasks (MMA and MIG) as required
* Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with health and safety standards
* Collaborate with engineering and production teams to support night operations
* Maintain accurate records of maintenance and project activities
Candidate Requirements
* Qualified mechanical engineer (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent)
* Proven experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or heavy engineering environment
* Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills
* Hands-on experience with:
* Hydraulics and pneumatics
* Welding (MMA and MIG)
* Conveyors, sawmill machinery, or similar heavy production equipment (desirable)
* Ability to work independently and proactively during night shifts
* Good knowledge of health and safety procedures and compliance requirements
* Reliable, professional, and safety-conscious attitude
