Role and responsibilities
As a member of the FCRM Improvements Portfolio team, you will be supporting the Portfolio Management Office and sub-portfolio’s project and programme work delivering over £150m of improvements in the next three years. You’ll play a critical role in helping us to better inform the changes we are delivering, which in turn will enable us to deliver outcomes that protect communities and businesses from the devastating impacts of flooding.
Our Improvements Portfolio is a professional portfolio, programme and project management service in the Flood & Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) directorate. We drive innovation and continuous improvements across FCRM and Incident Management and play a key part in delivering our corporate and FCRM strategies and delivery plans. This covers almost all of the national business improvement in FCRM.
You will start up and inform new projects, helping assure live projects, supporting our project managers, building relationships with our Portfolio Management Office and helping improve and embed our Portfolio management and data practices. This is a great role for someone with data analytics and / or project management skills that wishes to get experience at programme / portfolio level.
This role is not eligible for Skilled visa sponsorship.
Responding to incidents is a central and important part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role (usually virtual) and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and will include full training. Alternative working arrangements and full support will be available to enable you in your incident role.
Team
We are a professional portfolio, programme and project management service provided by the FCRM directorate for the benefit of the FCRM business across National and Area teams. We are part of the Innovation & Continuous Improvement. This role is an important part of supporting innovative improvement projects contributing to the success of the National Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy, Asset Management Strategy and Mapping, Modelling and Data Plans.
Experience/skills Required
We are looking for someone who is motivated and passionate, and who has:
* Formal project / programme management experience is essential.
* Highly numerate with good data gathering, manipulation and interpretation skills, able to deal with large datasets and multiple users. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel required, experience of Power BI / Tableau, (or similar) is desirable.
* Experience in a project support type role in a complex organisation using Agile and waterfall methodologies.
* Administrative and organisational skills, supporting regular meetings, agenda and minutes for the Portfolio governance cycles.
* Financial data management and project planning skills desirable.
* The ability to gain credibility, respect and co-operation throughout the business by showing the appropriate collaborative behaviours.
* Experience in tackling and automating routine issues with a continuous improvement and problem-solving mindset.
* An ability to work with uncertainty and find innovative solutions to solve problems.
