The Energy Division at ARM are currently recruiting an experienced Senior Mechanical building services Engineer to join a world-leading nuclear defense client based out of Devonport dockyard.
Job Overview:
This is a major engineering initiative focused on upgrading a Defence facility in Plymouth, UK, designed to support the Vanguard and future Dreadnought Class submarines. The project has a 10-year timeline and is valued at £1 billion, representing a significant infrastructure development for the UK's Defence sector.
Duties
6. Prescribe Mechanical Building Services requirements for design projects.
7. Specify Mechanical Building Services aspects in Scope of Work documentation.
8. Produce cost estimates and assist commercial departments with tender submissions.
9. Provide technical input and support during tender reviews.
10. Represent the company at meetings with stakeholders and contractors.
11. Oversee Mechanical Building Services designs through regular design reviews and progress meetings.
12. Ensure subcontractor designs comply with company standards, industry best practices, and relevant regulations.
13. Conduct independent assessments, technical audits, and feasibility reviews as part of design validation.
14. Serve as lead author for mechanical design documentation.
15. Respond to technical queries from subcontractors.
16. Represent Mechanical Services technical expertise across project phases.
Requirements
17. Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles for design, operation, and maintenance of:
18. Steam & Condensate systems
19. Industrial Gases
20. Fresh Water and Demineralised Water
21. HVAC systems
22. Domestic Water services
23. Knowledge and experience with:
24. BREEAM
25. DREAM
26. Building Regulations
27. Experience in:
28. Design consultancy and/or contractor design environments
29. Managing small teams of engineers
30. Full design lifecycle
31. Commissioning and post-installation performance evaluation
32. Good computer literacy across relevant digital tools and software.
33. Detailed understanding of applicable regulations, legislation, and technical standards for mechanical system design.
34. Experience working in nuclear or other high-hazard industries.
35. Familiarity with energy reduction strategies and decarbonisation methods for buildings.
36. Knowledge of passive design principles and building physics.
