Interim Business Development Director (12 Months)
Gordon Moody is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to supporting those most affected by gambling harm. Through residential treatment, therapy, and national training programmes, we deliver evidence-based services that transform lives.
We are seeking an Interim Business Development Director (12 months) to lead the strategic growth of our commissioned services and partnerships across health, criminal justice, and social care systems.
Key Responsibilities
* Own and manage a pipeline of qualified opportunities, leading bids for NHS, ICB, Local Authority and other commissioning bodies.
* Develop winning strategies based on deep client insight, aligning our specialist services with commissioning priorities.
* Lead multidisciplinary bid teams (clinical, operational, finance, bid writers) to produce high-quality submissions.
* Ensure all proposals are compliant, evidence-based, and clearly communicate impact, innovation, and value for money.
* Shape service solutions with financial sustainability and operational viability at their core.
* Provide challenge to pricing, KPIs, terms and delivery models to minimise risk while remaining competitive.
* Support organisational growth planning, contributing to pipeline forecasting and strategic positioning.
* Represent Gordon Moody externally—presenting at sector forums, influencing commissioners, and enhancing our brand reputation.
Person Specification
* Proven track record of leading and winning high-value bids (£500k+) in healthcare, mental health, social care, or other regulated public sectors.
* Strong knowledge of NHS and public commissioning processes.
* Skilled in designing bespoke, client-focused solutions with measurable outcomes.
* Commercially astute; able to interpret financial models and assess risk.
* Advanced project and team leadership skills with the ability to inspire bid contributors.
* Excellent communication, facilitation, and written proposal skills.
* Resilient, client-focused, and able to build trusted relationships quickly.
* Experience in the addiction or gambling harm sector.
* Understanding of trauma-informed approaches and safeguarding.
* MCIPS certification (or equivalent).
