Job description
We're looking for an outstanding Strategy Director to join the senior leadership team of a purpose-driven creative agency that exists to create work with real-world impact. This is a strategic leadership role for someone who thrives on solving complex client problems, is driven by effectiveness, and understands the power of bold, culturally relevant creative thinking.
The Role:
As Strategy Director, you'll help shape and grow the agency's commercial portfolio, working alongside client teams and reporting to the MD. You'll be in the room for the big conversations, guiding clients toward meaningful strategies and helping create campaigns that don't just look great, but truly perform.
What You'll Do:
Insight & Strategy
* Diagnose real client challenges and apply sharp, creative strategic thinking to solve them.
* Translate data, research and cultural trends into powerful insights and differentiated narratives.
* Write inspiring briefs that ignite creative teams and lead to disruptive, high-impact work.
* Ensure consistency and clarity across strategy, comms planning and creative execution.
New Business & Growth
* Help shape the agency's commercial strategy offer and open up new income streams.
* Lead on pitch strategy, from bespoke narratives to pitch-winning decks.
* Create strategic thought leadership and content that sparks interest and builds reputation.
* Represent the agency externally with confidence and insight.
Champion Effectiveness
* Build a culture of impact and measurement, with clear processes for tracking success.
* Develop effectiveness case studies that demonstrate clear ROI and drive award entries.
* Review and analyse campaign performance, advising on future strategy and innovation.
Client Development
* Cultivate strong, long-term relationships with key commercial clients.
* Lead strategic planning across client portfolios and spot opportunities for growth.
* Collaborate with client services to upsell strategic projects and partnerships.
Team & Culture
* Lead and mentor a team of junior planners, growing the next generation of strategic talent.
* Contribute to a positive, collaborative agency culture that values insight and innovation.
* Manage senior stakeholders and collaborate cross-functionally with creative and client teams.
* Support recruitment, career development, appraisals and broader team wellbeing.
Ideal Candidate:
* Minimum 7 years of experience in strategy/planning roles at leading creative agencies.
* A track record of delivering standout strategic thinking that drives effective and award-winning campaigns.
* Broad experience across brand, product marketing, direct response and campaign strategy.
* Ability to distil complex information into clear, compelling insights.
* Commercially savvy with a keen understanding of fast-paced, agile brand environments
* Bonus: experience with purpose-led brands or in the charity/NGO sector.
