Role: Lecturer – Fashion & Textiles – Maternity Cover

Location: Bedford College – Cauldwell Street Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £33,048 and £38,169 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications, 45 days annual leave (Pro-Rata) plus Bank holidays, Teacher’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses. Note – Salary and Annual Leave entitlement is for that of a Qualified Lecturer.

Hours/Weeks: 14.8 hours per week

Contract Type: Fixed Term – Part Time – Fixed until 19 February 2027

About the role:

We are currently seeking a Lecturer in Fashion & Textiles to join our Creative Arts department at The Bedford College Group as Maternity Cover.

As a Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

1. Teaching & Assessment – Deliver high-quality lessons across a range of programmes, prepare schemes of work, assess student work, and ensure compliance with awarding body standards (UAL).
2. Curriculum Development – Research and implement innovative learning materials, contribute to new course development, and create engaging, inclusive learning environments.
3. Student Support & Progress – Monitor learner progress, provide tutorials, maintain accurate records, and implement interventions to help students achieve their potential.
4. Quality & Compliance – Participate in internal quality assurance, uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity, and health & safety requirements, and complete administrative tasks to deadlines.
5. College Engagement – Promote programmes through marketing activities, attend open days and events, liaise with employers for vocational opportunities, and engage in CPD to maintain subject expertise.

About you:

6. Qualifications – Degree or equivalent in Fashion & Textiles; GCSE English & Maths (A–C); Certificate in Education or equivalent.
7. Experience & Knowledge – Recent teaching experience in Fashion & Textiles; familiarity with UAL curriculum; strong understanding of current industry developments and diverse learner needs.
8. Technical Expertise – Ability to deliver sewing techniques (appliqué, patchwork, quilting), basic pattern cutting, and textile processes (weaving, batik, tie-dye, lino printing, embroidery).
9. Skills & Professional Standards – Strong organisational and interpersonal skills; ability to design schemes of work, manage deadlines, and maintain high-quality learning environments; commitment to safeguarding and college values.
10. Flexibility & Development – Willingness to update skills, work across sites, and engage in CPD; ability to promote the college’s reputation and create an inclusive, supportive environment for learners.
