What is the role?
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Technical Team at South Midlands. This role reports directly to the Technical Director.
The purpose of the role is to assist in both managing the technical team and technical delivery of residential developments from land acquisition through planning, design, procurement, construction, and final adoption. The role provides technical leadership and support across the region, managing all external consultants to ensure the timely production of coordinated, compliant information in line with the Management Team's brief, business objectives, and internal standards.
What you'll do as a Senior Technical Manager
· Managing the site evaluation process and providing timely provision for economical and viable solutions to technical problems so the project remains within budget and the Build team can maintain the programme
· Overseeing the team managing projects from initial site identification or from Planning Approval Stage and the procurement of the technical package ensuring the co-ordination and issue of information which enables on time site commencement
· Establishing and enforcing quality and standards in schemes so to maintain the good image of the company
· Complying with responsibilities as defined in the Group's Health, Safety & Environment Policy and ensure compliance with the same throughout the team to promote safety in the way we build projects
· Effective daily management of the external consultant team to ensure the provision of required level of services in a pro-active and professional manner to enable the Build and Sales departments to fulfil their roles
· Co-ordinating production information to a written programme to ensure company targets are met for a controlled and cost-effective finish to the sites.
· Ensuring that the team are allocated tasks, where quality of work will need to be verified to maintain it is completed to a good standard within company guidelines
· Given proven experience the role will involve mentoring and training junior members of the team and developing their skills to a sufficient level where they can take on more responsibility and add value to the team, thus improving productivity within the region
· Provide technical input to land acquisition, including site constraints, planning risk, abnormal costs, and development viability.
· On occasion provide assistance to the Technical Director when making key business decisions and attend regular regional meetings as the relevant subject expert
What experience do I need?
· Qualified to degree level or equivalent in a relevant architectural/building/civil engineering subject
· Previous experience working in a similar role, managing a team. Ideally with a major housebuilder, with either an engineering or design background
· Thorough knowledge of the current building regulations, NHBC/building control standards and Adoption Agreements
· Knowledge of the planning system, with experience managing/assisting planning applications from initial submission through to consent.
· Strong commercial awareness and ability to balance technical excellence with cost and programme constraints.
· Ability to use AutoCAD is an advantage
· Valid UK driving licence
