Registration Service Driver Permanent, Part Time £25,081 Per Annum (full time equivalent) Location: Chelmsford Working Style: Operational field-based worker This is a fantastic opportunity working closely with Registration Officers and the Registration Management team, with a work vehicle provided. The role involves: Delivering stock Transporting registration paperwork Handling ad-hoc tasks as required A work mobile will be provided, and WhatsApp usage is essential for this role. While weekly routes are set, flexibility is required to support the service's needs. Working days: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday completing 18.5 hours per week. Start time: Negotiable-details to be discussed at interview. Actual salary based on 18.5 hours per week £12,540 per annum. Interviews will be held in County Hall, Chelmsford week commencing 26th May 2025. Job Purpose The Registration Service ensures Essex County Council's (ECC) statutory and legal obligations and General Register Office (GRO) requirements regarding the registration of ECC citizen life events to include births, deaths, marriages, civil partnerships, and citizenship ceremonies are met. This role is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of registration stock and paperwork to multiple site locations across Essex, ensuring compliance with the Highway Code and ECC driver guidelines. The role plays a key part in maintaining the security and integrity of sensitive registration materials during transit. Effective time management and route planning are essential, as the role will follow a predefined schedule of deliveries and collections. Clear communication of any issues or delays is critical to ensure the smooth operation of the service and maintain high standards of service delivery. Accountabilities Ensure all routes taken are as instructed, cost-effective, and comply with ECC travel guidelines, contributing to the efficient operation of the Registration Service. Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the vehicle, including the accurate recording of mileage and maintenance logs, ensuring compliance with ECC standards. Responsible for ensuring routine maintenance of the vehicle is booked and the vehicle it is kept clean and tidy; ensuring the vehicle driven meets all legal requirements or ECC standards, where they exceed minimum legal requirements. Responsible for undertaking vehicle safety checks at the start of each day and completing appropriate paperwork to ensure the vehicle is safe and roadworthy before use. Responsible for ensuring that all ancillary equipment is stored appropriately in the vehicle in order to ensure safety is maintained. Responsible for ensuring risk assessments for the vehicles are up to date, advising of any change in circumstances that require amendment to the risk assessment. Responsible for ensuring the any stock/paperwork is delivered to the location as specified, maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of registration materials. Support continuous improvement projects across the Registration Service, contributing to a culture of embracing change and service excellence. Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework. The Experience you will bring Holder of a valid UK driving licence. Accurate documenting of Mileage. Effective in planning travel coordination of routes, time allocation and cost effectiveness. Good navigation skills and knowledge of the Essex County for travel. Ability to carry out basic vehicle safety checks. Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and communicate issues promptly. Demonstrates resilience, with the ability to work calmly under pressure and manage multiple tasks in a timely manner.
