As the complexity of MLL's product offerings and their supporting systems grow, there is a need for structure and standardization in the way we manage the data we ingest and generate. The insights generated from this data are critical to the future success of the organisation. As such, MLL Telecom require a Data Manager to manage the way we create, move, integrate, and report on our business data.
The data sources vary considerably - from Service Management and Service Delivery data, Network Management data and Financial data through to the core network information (IPAM, netflow, network device configuration data, etc.). Supported by a Data Engineer and various data champions throughout the business, the Data Manager will continue the work started with the introduction of our Data Warehouse (Snowflake) and Analytics platform (PowerBI) to create data sets that enable automation and analytics that drive business decision making.
Reporting into the Director of Technology Services, the Data Manager will be accountable for defining how these datasets align with our data management strategies and champion best practice standards for data management across all teams. Alongside strategic and line management accountabilities, the Data Manager will be responsible for managing any requests for data and analytic dashboards from the business and MLL customers, including requirements gathering and work prioritisation.
Responsibilities:
Team Management
* Undertake line management duties for MLL's Data Engineer. Enable their best work, and support their development plans.
* Mentor MLL's Sales data analyst and support their development through a data management apprenticeship.
* Support and teach the MLL data champions, located in various teams across the business.
* Manage a third party development team assisting MLL with complex dashboard delivery.
Strategy
* Build and maintain the strategic foundations of MLL's data architecture.
* Champion the use of Master Data throughout the business, reinforcing the need for data consistency.
* Communicate the evolutionary changes made along the data journey to promote, educate, and excite internal stakeholders.
Architecture and Integration
* Utilise own experiences and the expertise of team members to create data architecture that enables the business to deliver against defined goals.
* Define and manage the structure of MLL data presented via MLL's chosen reporting tool from core Systems (Financial, Service Management, Network Management).
* Develop and maintain the standards adhered to for the ingestion of third-party data received from external organisations and data sources.
* Maintain data architecture documentation (data dictionary, data standards, etc.).
* Assess and recommend technology options where MLL's existing toolsets do not deliver against business need.
* Manage the implementation of new technologies; engage key stakeholders and deliver change through MLL's project methodologies.
Work Prioritisation
* Build and own the request backlog for analytics dashboards and reports, effectively engaging with, and communicating status to, the wider business.
* Use MLL standard practice (ITIL) to prioritise service and development requests, and support the internal helpdesk with any issues raised in relation to data analytics and reporting.
* Act as the data business analyst to define work efforts and business benefits in order to plan work and development spend efficiently.
Reporting and Analytics
* Design, implement and maintain best practice standards for adoption across the business, used to manage all data within the organisation.
* Build and maintain the dashboards and reports requested by the business.
* Collaborate with other members of the Technology Services team to define standards for ELT, API and warehousing processes relating to our data.
Skills & Experience:
Essential:
* A mathematical / statistical background - work experience, or formal education.
* 3+ years of Power BI development experience in progressive roles
* Basic knowledge of SQL
* Experience in building analytic dashboards and reports for a SME
* Effective communication - both verbal, and written.
Desirable:
* Telecoms or networking industry experience
* API integration management
* Experience with R, Python, or any other data related query languages
