We are a Suffolk County Council service looking for a 12‑week fixed‑term exhibition assistant to support the Beyond Labels project, a major new community initiative that celebrates the lives, achievements and challenges of people with disabilities in Suffolk.

Location: The Hold, Ipswich (IP4 1LR) – on‑site
Hours: 37 hours per week, with occasional evening and weekend work
Contract: Fixed term, 12 weeks (funded project)
Salary: £24,413 (pro‑rata)

Please note: This job is open to applicants aged 18‑24.


Your Role And Responsibilities

* Support the Beyond Labels Project Officer and the Exhibition and Interpretation Officer in preparing and installing the exhibition.
* Assist with the planning and delivery of community‑led events, social media content and research in line with the activity plan.
* Collaborate with the Audience Development Team, archivists and archive assistants to create engaging, accessible public programmes.
* Provide on‑site support during exhibitions, including visitor assistance, curation tasks and event coordination.
* Keep accurate logbooks, update online content and manage logistics for exhibit components.


You Will Need

* A passion for inclusive arts and heritage, and a commitment to centring disabled voices in exhibition design.
* Creative, supportive and open communication skills – willingness to learn new tools and approaches.
* Experience in community engagement, event planning or exhibition support is an asset but not required.
* Strong organisational and time‑management abilities, with the capacity to balance multiple responsibilities.
* A positive attitude, teamwork spirit and the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.

* Part of the Audience Development Team at Suffolk Archives, developing award‑winning public programming.
* Collegues from archivists, archive assistants and community volunteers, sharing a commitment to under‑represented histories.
