It is a living, breathing and evolving house which continues to be a family home while also welcoming over 95,000 visitors per year through its doors. The grade 1 listed building holds a collection of over 2200 objects some of national and of international significance. The historic donor family are at the heart of every visit to the house. The house open season typically runs from mid-March to end of October, and then re-opens for a seven day per week Winter at Sizergh experience between mid-November and Christmas Eve. During the winter months the Collections & House team are dedicated to undertaking the deep clean and maintenance, staff and volunteer training, and delivering projects such as redisplays, remedial conservation, programming and exhibitions. The collections team also look after the chattels associated with five other properties in the South East Cumbria and Morecambe Bay portfolio, which includes Dalton Castle, Keld Chapel, Acorn Bank, Cartmel Priory Gatehouse and Cross Keys Temperance Inn.Reporting to the Collections and House Manager, and working alongside two Collections and House Officers and three Collections Assistants, you will work with the historic collection and carry out inventory checks, update condition reports and associated documentation, in line with museum accreditation standards.You will support the Collections Assistants in carrying out the daily housekeeping tasks during the open season, and undertake the deep clean during winter. You will be responsible for the opening of the house to visitors, ensuring that our presentation standards are met and that everyone feels welcome. You will be responsible for the smooth running of the house on your working days which includes the supervision of contractors and the co-ordination of the volunteer room guides. As Collections and House Officer, you will deliver exceptional collections and interiors care while also helping to provide a first-class experience for our visitors to Sizergh. You will champion Sizergh’s highly significant interiors, collections and incredible history with our visitors, volunteers and staff, to become an advocate for the collection and help grow support for the work we do. Regular weekend and bank holiday working is required. From mid-March to end of October your working days will be Thursday to Monday, 9am-5pm. A rota will be agreed within the department to deliver the Winter at Sizergh experience, which will require some evening working up to and including the 24th December.
