Assistant National Trail Officer
Fixed term contract until 31 March 2028, 37 hours per week, salary 28,598 to 31,022 per annum (Scale F). Location: Norwich / Holt / Hybrid.
Are you looking for a role that takes you out and about across the Norfolk countryside and coastline? Are you keen to get hands‑on with the day‑to‑day management of our National Trails?
Norfolk is home to two flagship trails: the Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path. Along with the future King Charles III England Coast Path they belong to England’s family of National Trails, created over the past sixty years to provide access to the country’s finest landscapes.
National Trails offer more than routes for walking, cycling or horse‑riding. They provide opportunities for people to get into nature, connect with the world around them, enjoy a moment of peace, leave the car behind and embark on adventures with family and friends.
These flagship routes play a key role in supporting nature recovery and tackling climate change. They bring health and welfare benefits to both local communities and visitors and support rural economies by generating year‑round income and skilled employment.
Such assets need careful management, and we are looking for an Assistant National Trail Officer to help deliver inspirational, well‑promoted, high‑quality routes. This is a rare chance to work on the Norfolk coast, which includes the National Landscape and Marine Protected Area (MPA) Network.
In a small, skilled, hardworking team you will assist the National Trail Officers and Team Leader in monitoring and maintaining trail conditions and engaging with the public. Your tasks will include site visits, audits, repairing defects, and supporting office‑based activities. You will also help improve equity of access by identifying opportunities to enhance accessibility. Initially, you will play a key role in establishing the new King Charles III England Coast Path.
We offer flexible working patterns and locations, with the opportunity to be based at offices in Norwich or Holt and to work from home. We are committed to staff development, a positive work environment and a strong team ethic focused on delivering high‑level service.
The post‑holder must hold a full driving licence and be confident travelling to locations in Norfolk and Lincolnshire as required.
