The role
Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, fault diagnosis, and basic electrical fault‑finding across commercial heating systems within social housing and local authority properties.
- Complete repairs and replacements on pumps, valves, radiators, and associated components, including power flushing where required.
- Ensure all work is completed in line with statutory compliance requirements, including issuing gas safety certificates and related documentation.
- Maintain safe, clean, and organised plant rooms, manage van stock effectively, and deliver a consistently high standard of service.
- Communicate professionally with residents, clients, and local authority representatives, providing updates on works and service delivery.
- Support site surveys, quotations, and engineer reports, and take part in the out‑of‑hours call‑out rota for emergency repairs.
- Keep up to date with gas safety legislation, industry standards and best practice.
- Mobile role – daily travel required.
- Requires participation in call‑out rota for emergency repairs.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years industry experience in commercial gas and heating maintenance, ideally within social housing or local authority environments.
- Strong understanding of compliance requirements for communal and commercial heating systems.
- Strong communication and customer‑service skills when working with residents and clients.
- Experience of maintaining accurate job records and compliance documentation, preferably with job management systems such as BigChange or Joblogic/Jobwatch.
- Domestic and Commercial ACS qualifications including COCN1, CCN1, CIGA1, CDGA1, TPCP1/TPCP1A and CENWAT, plus current Gas Safe registration.
- Ability to pass a DBS check and hold a full UK driving licence.
- Desirable: additional technical qualifications or experience such as renewable energy systems, Unvented Hot Water, Water Regulations, Asbestos Awareness, or NVQ Level 3 equivalent.
