Overview
Assystem – Bristol, United Kingdom. Senior Stress Engineer role within the Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit. You will apply Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to perform detailed assessments of nuclear components, ensuring compliance with design codes such as ASME III and RCC-M. Role involves project planning, delivery, reporting, and regular communication with internal and external stakeholders, including client technical leads. Work may be performed within client teams or from Assystem offices, offering a variety of project experiences.
Responsibilities
* Plan, undertake, and report simulation and assessment projects using FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus) and calculations (e.g., MathCAD).
* Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to deliver high-quality outputs on time and within budget.
* Contribute to project planning, delivery, and reporting; communicate with client technical leads and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
* Essential:
* Nuclear industry experience (defence) preferable, but transferable skills from other disciplines accepted.
* Demonstrable expertise in fatigue, fracture, thermal, and structural stress assessments using finite element analysis.
* Finite Element analysis in ABAQUS (explicit/implicit).
* ABAQUS/CAE or equivalent (desirable).
* Code assessment to ASME B&PVC and RCC-M; RCC-M a plus.
* Knowledge of structural integrity and defect tolerance assessments.
* Python scripting in ABAQUS environment desirable.
* CRACKEN or alternative fracture assessment experience Highly desirable.
* Fatigue crack growth and initiation experience desirable.
* Familiarity with gated review process.
* Desirable / Preferred:
* Previous experience in similar roles in the nuclear or fusion industry.
* Hands-on 3D modelling experience in CAD software (Autodesk Inventor, Catia or SolidWorks).
* Experience in fluid modelling (CFD) or dynamic modelling (LS-Dyna, Radioss).

Additional Information
* BPSS and SC clearance required; ability to travel to Assystem offices and customer sites within the UK.
* To undertake work packages supporting major UK and international Nuclear Clients.
