Overview
Waterside specialists help support the waterways by bringing higher levels skills to the Trust in a range of exciting roles outside of your go-to volunteering tasks. We’re looking for volunteers who are looking for an outdoor role to join the asset management team as an asset inspection buddy. By applying for this role, you will help improve the quality, efficiency and health & safety of asset inspections.
Role
Asset inspectors have a huge role in the Trust, inspecting all 2000+ miles of waterways up to 6 times a year. The data collected informs all maintenance and repairs works in the Trust and alerts the teams to any arising issues. As a buddy, you will accompany the inspector, help operate manual elements (e.g. locks) and act as an extra pair of eyes.
When & where
This role will be for the Erewash Canal and the nearby waterways. Inspections occur every other month on a flexible schedule, so some months will have more opportunities than others. You will be informed of the inspector's location in the upcoming month and welcomed to join per your availability. Start times and the approximate duration are variable, and will be communicated with you beforehand.
Desired qualities
We ask that applicants have a vehicle and are comfortable walking long distances. Other than that, an interest in canal infrastructure, engineering, or health and safety are beneficial for the role.
