As we enter an exciting new phase of growth, including major upgrades to our facility, our strategy focuses on maximising scientific impact through operational excellence, innovation, and collaboration. By empowering our people and optimising how we deliver, we are ensuring that Diamond continues to support world-class research nationally and internationally.
To achieve this strategy, we are now inviting applications for a Director of Operations to join our Executive team and lead a newly established Operations and Resources Division that underpins the delivery of Diamond’s scientific mission. The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping and implementing a new operating model that optimises delivery through efficiency principles, ensuring strategic alignment and operational excellence. Working collaboratively with the CEO and other Directors, the new Director will lead senior managers and their teams across departments including Scientific Computing and Engineering, to translate strategic direction into operational execution, embedding empowerment, accountability and ownership throughout the organisation.
About You
We are looking for an exceptional Director of Operations who will bring significant senior operational leadership experience, preferably in science-based or research and development organisations. With a proven track record of leading organisational transformations and implementing lean operational principles, the appointee will bring experience in managing complex portfolios, and in building and leading high-performing, cross-functional teams. The new Director will be a collaborative leader with the ability to influence without direct authority, and a strategic thinker with strong operational execution capabilities. The appointee will bring strong communication and stakeholder management skills, and be committed to empowering others and building organisation capability.
The Director of Operations is a senior leadership role with an organisation-wide impact, and requires a highly visible presence and engagement across the organisation. The appointee will operate effectively at both strategic and tactical levels while driving meaningful organisational change through empowered, lean operational principles.
