Overview of the Role
TARA Recruitment is proud to be supporting a Telford School in the appointment of a Non–Teaching Head of Year Year 9. This is a vital pastoral leadership role focused on supporting student wellbeing, behaviour, attendance, and personal development during a key stage of secondary education.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior leaders, teaching staff, parents/carers, and external agencies to ensure students in Year 9 are supported to achieve their full potential both academically and personally. This role is ideal for an experienced pastoral professional who is passionate about making a positive impact on young people s lives.
Key Responsibilities of the Head of Year
* Lead and manage the pastoral support for all students in Year 9
* Promote positive behaviour, high standards of attendance, and student wellbeing
* Act as a key point of contact for students, parents/carers, and staff
* Monitor and support students progress, behaviour, and safeguarding concerns
* Work collaboratively with teaching staff and senior leadership to implement school policies
* Support students through challenges and contribute to early intervention strategies
* Maintain accurate records and contribute to reports and meetings as required
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* Experience working with young people in a pastoral, behaviour, or student support role (school–based experience preferred)
* Strong understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management, and student wellbeing
* Excellent communication and relationship–building skills
* Ability to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Commitment to promoting equality, inclusion, and high expectations for all students
Desirable
* Experience working within a secondary school setting
* Knowledge of attendance strategies and behaviour intervention programmes
* Relevant qualifications in youth work, education support, pastoral care, or similar
