Do you want to develop your career within our Urology Clinical Nurse Specialist Team and work with a highly skilled, motivated and dynamic service to make a difference and improve the experience of patients diagnosed with prostate cancer? We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Uro-Oncology CNS with advanced prostate and bladder cancer. Are you a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills and a background in Urology and/or Oncology? Are you looking for a new challenge then come and meet the team at Luton & Dunstable Hospital. A full time Band 7 CNS is required to work with the hospital Prostate and Urology Oncology Team

1. Non-medical prescribing qualification is desirable but opportunity to undertake this course will be given to the successful candidate.
2. Demonstrate the ability to undertake expert case load management
3. Participate in providing education within the trust
4. Audit and research, to promote service development initiatives are an integral part of the role.
5. The chosen candidate will be dynamic and self-motivated individual.
6. Proven experience in Prostate cancer, oncology and/or urology medicine is essential.

Main duties of the job

7. Provision of specialist, high quality, expert nursing care and support for patients and their carers with a diagnosis of prostate cancer.
8. Deliver evidence based individualised patient care according to patient’s changing health care needs, through holistic needs assessment, (HNA).
9. To work autonomously and seek collaborative relationships with others across and within professional boundaries.
10. To develop patient pathways and be responsible for developing the nursing service.
11. To provide expert knowledge and advice in own specialist area, ensuring maintenance of clinical excellence underpinned by evidence-based practice.
12. Work with the Multidisciplinary team and Cancer Management Team to ensure that the prostate cancer service complies with the national standards for safety and quality, which are assessed through National Cancer Peer Review Process and actively contribute with work plans resulting from this Quality Surveillance assessment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

13. To perform an effective key role within the MDT to deliver cancer waiting times targets and pathways communication.
14. To act as a specialist resource for patients and the clinical team by providing comprehensive advice, information, teaching and training both within the Trust and externally.
15. Update own clinical and specialist knowledge. Contribute in audit processes. Undertake, where appropriate, nursing research with published outcomes.
16. Promote excellence in clinical practice, and the setting of quality standards within specialty.
17. Active involvement in the development of the service locally and nationally.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

19. •1st Level Registered Nurse with valid registration •Educated to first level degree •Post Registration qualification in specialist area •Evidence of continuing professional development- masters level learning/ NMP/ IRMER or willing to work towards •Recognised teaching and assessing qualification Advanced Communication skills

Desirable criteria

20. •Non-Medical Prescribing •IRMER Training •Masters qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

21. •Relevant post registration experience at Band 6 or above in cancer, palliative care or the speciality •Experience of successful multi-agency working •Management of clinical Leadership experience •Experience of requesting imaging as a NMQR •Experience of teaching and assessing in the clinical area •Experience of developing and undertaking clinical audit •Experience of undertaking nurse led clinics •Participation in service development and implementation of change

23. •In-depth Knowledge of professional issues and policy relating to the specialist area. •Demonstrate knowledge and application of Clinical Governance •Demonstrates knowledge of Clinical audit and research •Demonstrates knowledge of Risk Management •Demonstrate knowledge of understanding of Clinical Issues – assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care

Desirable criteria

24. •Intermediate IT skills eg Microsoft office •Ability to produce and present written reports and data.
