BEAR Scotland is a leading provider of highway maintenance services across Scotland. We manage and maintain over 2,000km of Scotland’s trunk road network, tackling just about every imaginable task and working round the clock to help keep Scotland moving.
The South East Trunk Road Unit spans 506km through some of the busiest sections of the country, from central Scotland to through the Scottish Borders. Trunk roads in the South East range from the major multi-lane motorways across the central belt to roads through villages in the borders.
We have vacancies for Winter Patrol Drivers to join our existing operations team on a fixed term contract, to assist with our busy Winter Season. You will report to Operations Supervisor and Operations Manager and will be responsible to help keeping Scotland moving.
Responsibilities and Activities
1. Winter maintenance duties which include fitting gritter body and blade, driving gritter and spread salt by hand if required.
2. Winter maintenance rota during the winter months driving our state-of-the-art snow ploughs, when conditions dictate.
3. Responsibility for the health and safety of the public, colleagues and yourself.
4. Any other duties as required
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
5. Full UK Driving Licence and an LGV Class C Level is essential.
6. Knowledge of the requirement for Health and Safety rules and procedures.
7. Previous experience as a roadworker is desirable, however training can be provided.
8. There is a requirement to undertake training and to achieve competence in aspects of the job.
9. Physically fit
10. Experience of working to tight deadlines
11. Holding tickets for plant, traffic management, and Health and Safety an advantage.
12. Flexible working practices due to shift rotations.
