Job Description
The Lead Production (Process) Chemist will be the subject matter expert and technical authority on production chemistry for Viaro Energy’s operated assets, which include Bacton, Leman, and Greater Sole Pit. They will lead a team initially comprising a chemical management advisor, with potential for further expansion. The role involves identifying, selecting, and optimizing all downhole, topsides, and subsea chemical applications, fulfilling sampling and analysis requirements, and providing full lifecycle production chemistry support from project appraisal to decommissioning.
The Lead Production Chemist is a senior specialist role within Viaro Energy and is expected to operate with minimal supervision, using initiative and technical judgment to solve problems, make decisions, and prioritize workload effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
* Provide chemistry expertise to maintain or improve flow, technical integrity, and product quality throughout the production system, including designing stimulation fluids and managing chemical deployment risks.
* Supervise and mentor a team including a chemical management advisor and a lab & chemistry engineer.
* Coordinate with onshore contractors to ensure compliance with chemical injection and sampling programs for Viaro Energy and third-party subsea tie-backs.
* Manage chemical supply and chemistry services contracts, lead review meetings, and approve SAP invoices for accurate and timely payments.
* Build relationships within the production chemistry community to stay informed about industry best practices and technologies.
* Manage and report chemical usage and oil discharge data to comply with BEIS regulations.
* Identify chemistry and flow assurance risks and opportunities, developing appropriate management strategies.
Production Chemistry and Process Optimization
* Provide expert support on production chemistry issues such as scale, salt control, corrosion inhibition, hydrate management, and emulsion treatment.
* Oversee and optimize offshore chemical injection strategies for performance and cost efficiency.
* Investigate root causes of chemistry-related issues like fouling and integrity failures.
* Collaborate with process engineers and flow assurance specialists to troubleshoot and optimize system performance.
* Manage laboratory testing programs, ensuring analysis aligns with operational needs.
Support to Asset
* Work with Production Engineering and Well Services teams to design downhole chemical treatments addressing flow assurance threats.
* Assess corrosion threats with Integrity and Pipeline teams, and coordinate microbiological monitoring.
* Support offshore and onshore teams to optimize production and utility systems, meeting specifications.
* Contribute to Field Development Plans and Front-End Design Engineering, managing risks and focusing on simplicity and outcomes.
* Mentor and coach team members with varying experience levels.
* Manage chemical suppliers, ensuring quality and supply as contract holder.
* Contribute to regulatory chemical approval processes, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
* Provide engineering solutions for issues like scale treatment, H2S scavenging, foam lifting, hydrate inhibition, and corrosion management.
* Deliver safe, environmentally responsible chemical treatment strategies to prevent production losses.
