Overview
Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking three highly motivated, visionary, and business-focused leaders to take on the newly created roles of Divisional Managing Director, leading one of our three Clinical Divisions: Neighbourhood Care; Medicine and Emergency Care; Surgery, Women’s and Children’s. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of care delivery across a diverse and complex population. As a senior leader, you will drive a purposeful and transformational agenda within our Divisions and focus on delivery of our performance improvement agenda including urgent and emergency care improvement, elective recovery, community integration and diagnostics, while ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centred services.
You will work directly with our Chief Operating Officer and alongside the wider Executive Team to design and execute Trust-wide strategies that deliver meaningful change and outstanding patient outcomes. This role is open to candidates from clinical, medical, or operational backgrounds who meet the criteria and share our commitment to excellence, inclusion, and innovation.
Please indicate in your application if you have a preference and experience for specific Clinical Division(s) or wish to be considered for all three.
Main duties
The Divisional Managing Director will be the single accountable officer for the Division, and will lead the Divisional quadrumvirate — comprising the Divisional Director of Nursing (DDoN), Divisional Director of Operations (DDoP), and Divisional Clinical Director (DCD). You will be responsible for the strategic, operational, and clinical delivery of high-quality, patient-centred services. As a key member of the Trust's executive team, you will provide dynamic leadership and governance across all areas of the Division, ensuring that quality, safety, patient experience, performance, financial sustainability, and workforce objectives are consistently met. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will oversee a diverse portfolio of services, ensuring alignment with organisational goals, clinical governance standards, and performance targets, in line with national requirements and Trust strategy. You will bring a deep understanding of clinical, operational, and financial priorities, and foster a culture of innovation, inclusion, and continuous improvement. As a champion for your staff and services, you will ensure equity, respect, and visibility across the Division. As a senior leader within the Trust, you will contribute to corporate leadership and may be required to take responsibility for Trust-wide issues beyond your immediate remit to support shared organisational objectives.
