Job Title: Technical Author

About the Role We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Technical Author to join our Engineering team. This role is responsible for creating, maintaining, and improving high-quality technical documentation for our locomotive products and services.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, service, and quality teams to ensure all manuals, user guides, and technical documentation are accurate, clear, and compliant with industry standards. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys translating complex engineering information into clear and practical documentation that supports both internal teams and customers.
Key Responsibilities
Produce and maintain technical documentation including user manuals, service guides, maintenance instructions, training materials, and engineering specifications.
Translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly content.
Collaborate with engineers, service teams, and manufacturing staff to gather and validate technical information.
Ensure all documentation complies with regulatory, safety, and quality standards.
Review and update existing documentation to reflect product changes, improvements, or new releases.
Develop visual aids such as diagrams, schematics, and illustrations to support technical communication.
Maintain document control, version management, and accessibility across teams.
Support internal training and onboarding with clear and accurate technical reference materials.
Contribute to continuous improvement of documentation standards and processes.
Qualifications
Degree or diploma in Engineering, Technical Communication, or a related discipline.
Proven experience in technical writing, ideally within engineering, manufacturing, or heavy machinery sectors.
Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, or software engineering concepts.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
Experience using documentation tools such as MS Office, Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, or similar platforms.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical data.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously.
