Our Admin Officers play a critical role, providing excellent administrative support and customer service to court users, judiciary and management.
About Us
HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family courts and tribunals in England and Wales. We support court users and colleagues within HMCTS so that people and businesses can access potentially life‑changing justice. Your Role
Working as part of a team, you will contribute to the overall operational, performance and service standard targets across your area of work. You will progress cases through the court/tribunal system and provide administrative support to functions within HMCTS. You will have regular contact with court/tribunal users, including members of the judiciary and the legal profession.
* Prepare papers and files for court, tribunals, hearings and meetings.
* Create and update records on our in‑house computer system and perform data entry.
* Record court results accurately, interpreting information required on a court file.
* Check and verify documents, records, accounts, claims and returns for approval, results, statistics, plans etc. against criteria, regulations or procedures.
* Collect and assemble information for returns, results, accounts, statements, warrants, statistical analysis and reports.
* Communicate with the public, the judiciary, other court and tribunal users and representatives of other agencies and organisations.
Skills and Experience
Excellent attention to detail and good written and verbal communication skills. Friendly and approachable manner. Desire to deliver proactive and effective support to customers by phone and email. Skilled in organising time, prioritising efficiently, multi‑tasking and adapting to using various software packages. Enjoy working in a busy environment and helping court users navigate the justice system.
Further Details
This role is offered on a part‑time basis only, with a working pattern of three days (22.2 hours) per week – Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The minimum requirement is 22.2 hours per week. The role is customer facing and requires office‑based work.
Fixed Term Appointments (FTA) on Promotion
MoJ employees may apply for FTA opportunities at a higher grade. If you accept an FTA on promotion, it is temporary and you will revert to your substantive grade after the loan period. Approval from line managers is required before the loan.
Loans / Detached Duty
The terms of the loan or detached duty will be agreed between the home and host department and the civil servant. This includes grade on return. Agreement must be obtained before commencement of the application process.
Skilled Worker Visa
From 22 July 2025, the GOV‑UK increased the salary threshold and skills level for Skilled Worker visas. This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for sponsorship for those applying for a Skilled Worker Visa for the first time. Employees holding a Skilled Worker visa continuously before 22 July 2025 may raise this during vetting checks.
Working Arrangements & Further Information
The MoJ offers hybrid working arrangements where business needs allow. All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60 % of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity.
