Overview

Are you passionate about protecting the natural environment?

Would you like your work to directly influence the sustainability of major UK infrastructure projects?

Our Client is a successful Civil Engineering contractor with a long history of delivering complex projects including Marine, Renewables, Power & Transmission. As the Environmental Clerk of Works, you'll be the on-the-ground guardian of biodiversity, habitats, and compliance.

What You'll Be Doing

This is a field-based role supporting a range of infrastructure and construction projects (Power & Transmission, Renewables, Cabling).

* Monitoring and ensuring compliance with environmental commitments and legal requirements on construction sites
* Advising site teams on best practices to protect habitats, species, and natural features
* Undertaking ecological surveys (e.g. protected species, nesting birds) and reporting findings
* Liaising with contractors, designers, and clients to deliver practical environmental solutions
* Producing site reports and communicating risks or incidents promptly
* Identifying opportunities to enhance biodiversity through proactive site management

What You'll Need

We’re looking for someone who:

* Holds a degree (or equivalent experience) in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field
* Has at least 1 year of site-based experience (e.g. construction, ecology, consultancy, enforcement)
* Understands UK environmental legislation, especially in relation to planning and construction
* Is confident working independently and influencing site teams in a practical, supportive way
* Has a full UK driving licence and is happy to travel to rural sites

Desirable but not essential:

* CSCS card (preferred but not essential)
* Experience with protected species mitigation or ECoW roles
* Familiarity with CEMP/EMP implementation

Please note that due to the remote location of projects, the ability to work away from home is required.

Applicants must have the relevant right to work in the UK as visa sponsorship isn’t provided.
